selina baumann develops her work through an intuitive process, inviting the viewer to connect emotionally with her perspective. departing from a central analysis of the experience of motherhood, the works in the exhibition combine for the first time selina baumann's ceramic practice with her textile work.
delicate pink cloth protrudes from black clay. the hand and the heart are themes that reappear as signifiers of the process of working, of feeling: tools, organs, living things. the resulting soft organisms simultaneously entice and repulse, inhabiting an unknown space between figuration and abstraction.
selina baumann lives and works in basel. she studied fine art in zürich and completed her mfa with a focus on sculpture in hamburg. her work has recently been shown at galerie probst berlin (DE), cacaofabriek helmond (NL), kunsthalle palazzo, galerie laurence bernard geneva, biennale weierthal, biennale bregaglia, and kunsthalle basel, amongst various other locations. she has been awarded the kunstpreis riehen (2019), the cristina spoerri prize (2018) and the kiefer hablitzel prize (2014, 2015).
